Praziquantel is frequently used to treat infections, including liver fluke and schistosomiasis diseases. A broad-spectrum anthelmintic, ivermectin works especially well against parasites like roundworms, threadworms, and certain mites. It causes paralysis and death by making the parasites' cell membranes more permeable to chloride ions. Ivermectin is frequently used to treat infections such as strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis, which causes blindness along rivers. Human roundworm infections are treated with the anthelmintic levamisole. It functions by inducing paralysis and ultimately the worm's ejection from the host by stimulation of its nerve system. Levamisole is frequently used to treat illnesses including hookworm and ascariasis.
